For our 32nd. wedding
anniversary, Denni and Jim returned to the Caribbean.
|
When we married in 1970, we
spent a two-week honeymoon at Club Med on the island of Guadeloupe in the
French West Indies. When the opportunity to return to the Caribbean
presented itself, courtesy of Marriott, we took advantage of it.
Seven nights on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and four nights in
San Juan, Puerto Rico.

After a red-eye flight from
San Francisco to Miami, we flew on to Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the
U.S. Virgin Islands. We spent a total of seven days at the Renaissance
Hotel on St. Thomas, the first couple of which were exclusively spent on
the beach, reading, swimming and drinking rum-n-coke.
|
|
For something different, we
went on a night snorkel trip and discovered what goes on under the sea
when the sun goes down. Of course we also time shopping in Charlotte
Amalie, a frequent port-of-call for Caribbean cruises. |
|
We took a day trip to St. John,
another of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Since most of the island is part
of the Virgin Islands National Park, most of St. John is remote beaches
with fabulous snorkeling and diving.

Christopher Columbus
discovered Puerto Rico in 1493 and San Juan is one of the oldest cities in
the western hemisphere. San Juan is a very modern, bustling city,
but the beauty of the city is in the fortress area known as Old San
Juan. Of course no trip to San Juan is complete unless you visit the
Bacardi distillery.
